Outdoor companies, global retail traders, operators of branch networks, transport and logistics companies as well as public administration and developers require increasingly sophisticated solutions and a higher quality of data on human mobility and transport for planning and decision making purposes. These data are crucial for their consumers, both within small areas and within a regional and national context.

It is important to understand that, in this context, mobility measurement does not refer to population density. Mobility measurement captures the methods and times of transport and the specific routes taken. One example would be the measurement of a trip to work and back. The regularity of these trips can be analysed, the consistency in the route taken recorded. Mobility measurement includes visits to specific places and opportunities to see.

In summary, the measurement of human mobility is carried out by means of representative quantitative research, providing information on human behaviour and movement within a specific area – state, region, conurbation, catchment area, or specific premises (such as a shopping centre).
